Washington D.C. can be awfully confusing to get around if you're not familiar with the area, but don't let that keep you from visiting. The District's attractions are definitely must-see places if you are in the area.

We could go into the layout of the streets throughout the various neighborhoods and the four quadrants but we don't want to confuse you. Just beware that if you are looking for a certain address than you should be sure to know which "quadrant" it is in because that address may apply to two totally different places in two very different parts of town. Some popular areas in D.C. are DuPont Circle which is known for it's upscale locales, Adams Morgan which is comprised mainly of a Latin American population and is home to many hot nightlife spots, downtown D.C. with a number of restaurants and federal buildings, and finally Capitol Hill and the Mall which is scattered with many museums and the White House.

The best way to avoid getting lost, confused, and frustrated is to get a good map and make use of the public transportation that Washington D.C. has to offer. Before heading out to sightsee, it's always a good idea to decide where you generally want to go and have a general idea of how to get there. The best way to plan your trip is to plan your outings with the various neighborhoods in mind. For example, spend a day or two at the Mall and Smithsonian area just visiting the museums and historical sights. You can get something to eat in the area or there are many option in nearby downtown D.C. Take a cab the next day to Georgetown (there is no Metro service there) and do a little shopping and break for lunch as you stroll along. Finally, wrap up your evening in Adam's Morgan or DuPont Circle for some fun nightlife.
